Adopting mems scanner technology from the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology (Fraunhofer ISIT), the proof-of-concept, dubbed R3000, sweeps a 40° x 30° cone at ranges “from a few centimetres to several hundred meters with millimetre accuracy,” according to P+F. “Ambient light and other environmental influences are suppressed.”
Scanning is at 250,000pulse/s, and the unit measures 150 x 150 x 50mm.
As well as generating a point cloud, it can superimpose an intensity image to ease visualisation of a scene.
Applications are foreseen creating data bases for artificial intelligence, and feeding autonomous vehicles and service robot algorithms, “in manufacturing plants, hospitals or nursing homes”, said the company.
