65GHz 12bit oscilloscope

Called 8650HD, two 65GHz channels can be operated though 1.85mm 50Ω connectors, or it can be switched to four 33GHz channels.

It is part of the 8000HD family of scopes, with six models from 20 to 65GHz, up to 320Gsample/s (two channels) and up to 8Gpoint of acquisition memory (200Mpint/s/ch is standard) – all with 12bit resolution at full bandwidth, and 160Gsample/s on four channels.

“Serial data technologies are increasing in speed,” according to the company. “PCI Express 6.0 delivers 64Gtransfer/s, while USB4 specification v2.0 delivers 80Gbit/s. Both use multi-level pulse-amplitude-modulation [PAM] signals. Serial data link complexity is also increasing through the use of dynamic link equalisation, negotiation, training and handshaking operations. 12 bits of resolution provides exceptional signal characterisation of the PAM3 and PAM4 signals used in USB4 v2.0 and PCIe 6.0 respectively, and 8Gpoint significantly enhances debug of link negotiation problems.”

Options amongst the family include: 16Gbit/s or 8Gbit/s hardware serial trigger, low-speed serial trigger, serial decode and a 2.5Gsample/s digital input for mixed-signal analysis which works with signal up to 500MHz – and there is an external digital input for 3GHz data which samples at 12.5G/s.

ProBus inputs can be set to 50Ω or 1MΩ, ProAxial inputs are higher bandwidth 50Ω, and 1.85mm inputs are fitted to ≥50GHz models

Coupled with those is serial data analysis software called SDA Expert, and provision is made to couple the scopes with the company’s PCIe or USB protocol analyser for insight into link behaviours – also the company’s HDA125 analyser can be linked to acquire digital signals up to 6Gbit/s.

“Capture low-speed serial data side-band, training and negotiation links, power rails, and associated signals using nearly every 50Ω or 1MΩ coupled probe offered by Teledyne, including passive probes and current probes,” said the company. “Utilise any of more than 20 low-speed serial triggers and decoders, making it easier to perform low-speed and high-speed debug on the same oscilloscope.”

Test packages are available for automated compliance test.

Internally, the system is a PC, built around an Intel i7 processor and 64Gbyte or ram.
