Boris asks National Security Adviser to review Chinese takeover of Newport Wafer FabBoris Johnson has asked Sir Stephen Lovegrove, the UK’s National Security Adviser, to look at the takeover of Newport Wafer Fab by Chinese-owned Nexperia,

“We have to judge whether the stuff that they are making is of real intellectual property value and interest to China, whether there are real security implications,” the PM told MPs, “we are looking into it. I have asked the national security adviser to review.”

Johnson added that the Welsh government had asked UK ministers to deal with the issue but the Welsh government has denied this.

At the time the deal was announced a Welsh government spokesperson said: ““Issues of Chinese ownership are a matter for the UK Government.”

In a more recent statement the Welsh government says: “The Welsh government has not made a request to the UK government to review the takeover of Newport Wafer Fab.”
