Breaking the size barrier in CO2 sensing

Sensirion now offers the drastically miniaturised CO2 sensor. Compared to its predecessor, the SCD4x CO2 sensor is seven times smaller and provides many more disruptive features.

The series is the company’s next-generation miniature CO2 sensor that provides the smallest size coupled with an excellent price-to-performance ratio. The series comprises the SCD40 and SCD41 CO2 sensors. Both sensors are constructed on the photoacoustic sensing principle and the company’s patented PASens and CMOSens Technology to facilitate unmatched small sensor size combined with high performance. The device provides an accuracy of ±(50ppm +5% of reading) at 400–2000ppm, while the SCD41 has an accuracy of ±(40ppm +5% of reading) at 400-5000ppm. Also, the SCD41, highlighting a low-power mode, is ideal for applications with a limited power budget.

SMD compatibility and the small footprint enable cost- and space-effective integration to increase design freedom for device manufacturers. The integrated best-in-class humidity and temperature sensor facilitate superior on-chip signal compensation and further RH and T outputs. Finally, the large supply voltage range (2.4-5.5V), the robustness to external stresses and the adjustable power consumption make the device an excellent fit for differing customer needs.
