1. What is a ceramic capacitor

Ceramic chip capacitor is a kind of capacitor made of ceramic material as a medium, coated with a metal film on the ceramic surface, and then used as an electrode after high temperature sintering. It is also called a ceramic disc capacitor. They are high-voltage ceramic capacitors and low-voltage ceramic capacitors. As electronic components, they have long appeared in various electronic products and are widely used.

Ceramic chip capacitors are made by extruding a high-dielectric constant capacitor ceramic (barium titanate titanium monoxide) into a tube, wafer or disc as the medium, and plating silver on the ceramic as an electrode using the infiltration method.

2. Advantages and disadvantages of ceramic capacitors

Advantages of ceramic capacitors:

1) The capacitance loss of high-voltage ceramic capacitors has high stability with temperature and frequency.

2) The special series structure of high-voltage ceramic capacitors is suitable for high-voltage extremely long-term working reliability.

3) High-voltage ceramic capacitors have a high current climbing rate and are suitable for non-inductive structures in large current loops.

Disadvantages of ceramic capacitors:

1) The capacity is relatively small.

3. The role of ceramic capacitors

The high-frequency characteristics of ceramic capacitors are relatively good, and generally play the role of coupling, filtering, decoupling, and oscillation in the Circuit. Porcelain is used in high-stability oscillating circuits as loop capacitors and pad capacitors. Low-frequency ceramic capacitors are limited to bypassing or blocking DC in circuits with lower operating frequencies, or occasions where stability and loss are not high, including high frequencies. Such capacitors are not suitable for use in pulse circuits because they are susceptible to breakdown by pulse voltage. The high-voltage ceramic capacitors used in the high-power and high-voltage fields are required to have the characteristics of small size, high withstand voltage and good frequency characteristics. High-voltage ceramic capacitors have become one of the indispensable components of high-power and high-voltage electronic products. The use of high-voltage ceramic capacitors is mainly divided into power equipment for power transmission and distribution systems and equipment for processing pulse energy.

Ceramic capacitors are mainly aimed at high frequencies. High-voltage ceramic capacitors depend on what occasions you use. The most typical function is to eliminate high-frequency interference.
