Compact GaN FET power adapter certified for home healthcare use

Update: October 12, 2021

TRUMPower has launched its TGM250 GaN FET-based power adapter series, targeting medical applications necessitating efficient electrical power conversion in a 50% smaller form factor than previously available. Class II models are certified for use in home healthcare environment. The power supply’s withstand voltage of 4,000VAC from input-output (2 x MOPP) makes it ideal for patient care environments. With an average efficiency of 91-93%, the 250W power adapter meets the latest global energy efficiency standards for external supplies with its compliance to DoE Level VI, while providing a very low no-load power consumption of 0.21W max.

The power adapter comes in a compact 6.81” (L) x 2.64” (W) x 1.3” (H) enclosure and is furnished with either a class I IEC 320/C14 AC inlet or a class II IEC 320/C18 AC inlet. The power supply offers a high-power density of 11W/in3 and has five standard single output voltages of 12, 19, 24, 48, and 56VDC. The series operates with a universal input range of 100 to 240VAC and operating temperatures between 0C to +60C ambient while derating linearly from 100% load at +40C to 50% load at +60C. The units are reliable with 300,000 hours minimum MTBF at 25C ambient, calculated per Telcordia SR-332.

The TGM250 is certified for the latest medical standards, including IEC 60601-1 Edition 3.1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1:2012, CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 60601-1:14. Class II models are certified to: IEC/EN 60601-1-6: 2015, CAN/CSA-C22.2 60601-1-6:11, IEC 60601-1-11:2015, ANSI/AAMI/HA60601-1-11:2015, CAN/CSA-C22.2 60601-1-11:2015. The power adapter complies with IEC/EN 60601-1-2 4th edition EMC and immunity standards including EN 55011, EN 55024, EN 55032/FCC,VCCI class B (conducted and radiated emissions), EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3, EN 61000-4-2, EN 61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-4, EN 61000-4-5, EN 61000-4-6, EN 61000-4-8, EN 61000-4-11. It also meets energy star 2.0, ErP stage 2, CoC tier 2, NRCan & GEMS level VI standards.
