Compact regulators offer increased power density and transient response

Update: October 28, 2023

Vishay Intertechnology now offers its microBUCK synchronous buck regulators with a new family of 15A, 25 A, and 40A devices providing input voltages from 4.5V to 20V in the thermally enhanced 5mm x 7mm PowerPAK MLP34-57 package. Giving increased power density and transient response when compared to previous-generation devices, the Vishay Siliconix SiC45x family regulators provide PMBus 1.3 compliance for power system telemetry.

The high power density of the devices is made achievable by co-packaging high-performance n-channel trench MOSFETs with a PWM controller into a compact package. The regulators provide low operating current in idle mode, allowing peak efficiency up to 98% and decreasing power losses. Created to simplify the design of high-performance POL converters, the integrated devices need minimal external components for configuration and loop compensation.

SiC45x family regulators are internally compensated across the whole VIN and VOUT range of operation. Highly configurable, the devices combine their broad input voltage range with an adjustable output voltage from 0.3V to 12V. The remarkably versatile regulators are excellent for a wide range of applications, including POL converters for enterprise servers, cloud computing, and industrial computers, in addition to networking, telecom, and storage systems.

The regulators’ COT architecture gives an ultrafast transient response with minimum output capacitance and tight ripple regulation over a wide load range. It also facilitates loop stability regardless of the type of output capacitor employed. Reliable operation is ensured with the integration of a robust set of protection and monitoring features, including output OVP/UVP, OCP in pulse by pulse mode, differential output remote sensing, and OTP with hysteresis.
