Compact three-phase input DIN rail power supplies offer increased peak power capability

Update: October 13, 2021

TDK Corporation has added new Three-Phase AC input models to the TDK-Lambda DRB series of cost-effective DIN rail mount power supplies. Rated for continuous operation at 120W and 240W with 12V, 24V and 48V outputs, the units produce a peak of 144W and 288W for two seconds. This, and a constant current overload characteristic, allows operation with capacitive and inductive loads. These power supplies also offer a low energy inrush current upon initial start-up, decreasing nuisance tripping of input circuit breakers.

The DRB three-phase series is ideal for a broad range of applications, including conventional switch cabinets, decentralised machinery and industrial systems, through to information and communications technology.

Accepting a wide range input of 350 to 575VAC, the units are housed in a rugged metal case measuring just 55mm W x 129mm H x 138.2mm D, saving space on the DIN rail for other components. The high operating efficiency of up to 94% and low off-load power consumption, which can be decreased to <2.3W when in standby mode utilising the remote on-off, lessens energy consumption. Lower power losses decrease internal heating and increase electrolytic capacitor lifetime.

For higher power or redundant systems, the front panel DIP switch allows droop mode current sharing for parallel operation. All models have a wide adjustment range of 11.4V to 15V (12V model), 22.5V to 29V (24V models) and 45V to 56V (48V model) to enable compensation for cable drops, ORing FETs or setting to non-standard output voltages. As well as an LED indicator, a DC OK Relay contact is offered for remote monitoring, and remote on/off is possible by closed relay contact or <4V input.

Input to output isolation is 3,510VAC, input to ground 2210VAC and output to ground is 1,390VAC. The models are convection cooled and rated for operation in -25C to +70C ambient temperatures, with derating above 55C.

The units are certified to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 62368-1, 61010-1, 61010-2-201 and are CE / UKCA marked to the Low voltage, EMC and RoHS Directives. They meet EN 55011-B, and CISPR11-B radiated and conducted emissions. The series also complies with EN 61000-3-2 (Class A) harmonic currents and IEC/EN 61000-6-2 immunity standards.
