Crimp direct connectors supply power directly to the board

Update: March 11, 2023

The SKEDD connector family with patented Würth Elektronik technology offers a new arrival: REDFIT WR-WSP Crimp SKEDD. The direct connectors are provided for solder-free and tool-free assembly with up to five pins and five different colour codings. They offer a current capacity of up to 16A, a 400V rated voltage, and an operating temperature range of -25C to +105C. The audibly locking reversible connection to the PCB has verified strength that has been acceleration tested to 10g. The crimps are an excellent alternative to soldered THT jacks.

In the era of compact electronic design, power connectors are often the only THT component amongst the SMDs on the board. Extra hand soldering or a wave soldering pass for a single component makes the whole manufacturing process more complex and, therefore, more cost-intensive. Furthermore, a classic connector solution requires two components – one on the cable and the other on the PCB. SKEDD technology lowers the number of components, and other processes are eradicated. The connector can be optionally assembled against the direction of component placement without additional workload, saving time and production costs.

The patented SKEDD technology developed by the company is safe and convenient. The direct connector with integrated reverse polarity protection offers active locking with acoustic and haptic feedback. The crimp connectors are obtainable in black, red, white, yellow and blue, so colour coding avoids errors when employing multiple connectors. Contact to the power supply is established through the contacted holes in a 1.6mm thick PCB. The SKEDD connector with the convenient crimp cable assembly can be connected later, for example, when installing the assembly.
