Teledyne MFT relay photoLooking like a general-purpose problem solver for process control, Teledyne Relays has introduced a seven-function DIN rail mount timing relay that works over 100ms to 100 hours and offers a 5A 240Vac change-over (SPDT) contact, that can handle “small inductive loads” at 2.5A.

Operation is over a wide range of ac or dc supplies. There are two versions:

  • MFT02A12
    12-240Vdc and 12-240Vac
    <3.5VA
  • MFT02A24
    24Vdc and 24-240Vac
    <3VA

Connections are simple: there are three for the contacts, two for power and one for a control input – the latter intended to be connected via some form of switch to the to the + or live supply.

Three front panel controls set mode and time.

Triggered by power application and the external switch, the timing modes are called: ‘delay on operate’, ‘interval’, ‘interval on trigger open’, ‘double interval’, ‘delay on release’, ‘symmetrical recycler on-first’ and ‘symmetrical recycler off-first’. The data sheet provides clear descriptions of these.

Time choice is: 0.1-1s, 1-10s, 6-60s, 60-600s, 0.1-1h, 1-10h or 10-100h – with ≤5% setting accuracy and ≤0.2% repeatability.

A yellow LED is included, which blinks slowly during timing and fast if the front panel controls are set incorrectly. Steadily-on means different things in different modes.

Contact rating for resistive loads is 5A for 250Vac or 24Vdc, dropping to 2.5A at either voltage for the unspecified small inductive loads.

Electrical life is ≥50,000 operations (5A 250Vac cosφ=1) and the case measures 17.5mm wide and 81 x 67mm.
