EnSilica opens new design centre, starts recruitment drive

Update: August 6, 2023

EnSilica opens new design centre, starts recruitment driveThe centre is being established around a team of six very experienced engineers, says Ensilica. It adds to the company’s existing headquarters and design facility near Oxford, and its other design centres in Wokingham and Cambridge. Note that the company also has a specialist centre for functional verification and physical design capabilities based in Bangalore, India.

Located in the central Sheffield Technology Parks, near to Hallam University, the new site officially opens today.

Why Sheffield? EnSilica CEO Ian Lankshear (pictured) explains.

“We chose Sheffield as it has a great pedigree for innovation, with technology companies such as Arm already established in the area, and with its links to several first-class universities on the doorstep.”

John Matthews, who will head the design centre adds:

“This is a great region and a great city that we feel will help us attract the best talent. Not only do we have a team in place that will foster a strong environment for growth and learning, with the Peaks and Moors on its doorstep, Sheffield gives staff here a great work life balance.”

The Sheffield team’s background covers analogue, RF and digital design, gained at companies such as CML Microsystems, NXP and Jennic. The team has previously developed specialist low-power wireless devices for consumer and industrial applications.

As well as being the former home of Jennic, Sheffield hosts sureCore, the ultra-low power embedded IP specialist, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, which is backed by Boeing, and the University of Sheffield’s Quantum Centre. Not forgetting Pimoroni, too.

Recruitment

As well as the new design centre, EnSilica is announcing a recruitment drive to bring in Semiconductor design engineers at both graduate and more-senior levels.
