Expanded range of high-speed automotive FPC/FFC connectors

Update: August 6, 2023

Hirose has improved its automotive FPC/FFC connector portfolio with the launch of the FH75 Series. Supporting MIPI D-PHY specifications, the new series offers high-speed data transmission up to 1.5Gbps in a miniature footprint. The compact series provides a 0.5mm pitch and a height of just 2mm to give valuable space savings.

Providing high contact reliability in harsh environments, the series uses a two-point contact design with two independent springs that offer a wiping action to stop contact failure from dust, dirt and other contaminants. With an operating temperature of up to 125C, it satisfies extensive heat demands encountered in automotive applications. The FPC connector satisfies additional automotive demands, including resistance to shock and vibration, hydrogen and sulfur gasses, humidity, and corrosion.

The connector uses a flip-lock with an FPC tab, and housing side catches that provide a high retention force of 51.4N. The simple flip lock design gives easy FPC insertion and emits a clear tactile click to verify complete locking. The FPC connector has a user-friendly design, which incorporates wide tapers that give smooth FPC insertion.

“The FH75 Series meets rugged automotive mechanical requirements, including high-temperature operation and a high-retention force for improved reliability in demanding applications,” said Mark Kojak, VP of sales and marketing for Hirose Electric USA.

The series is frequently used in car navigation, laser radar, millimetre-wave radar, drive recorder, audio display and in-vehicle camera systems.

The series is available in a 40-position version that is halogen-free and RoHS compliant.
