Aimed at UK technology startups headquartered in the UK, the programme is a government-backed initiative run by Intralink, a business development consultancy. The latest four companies to be selected are Spaceflux, Natcap, Brill Power, and Accelerated Materials.
The companies offer a range of technologies identified as being of interest to Japanese corporations. They include the developer of a ‘space situational awareness’ system to tackle the increasing problem of satellite congestion and the provider of a ‘nature intelligence platform’ to help organisations manage their use of natural resources.
They will benefit from a 10-week, subsidised business development initiative in Japan. As part of this, Intralink’s Tokyo team will carry out research into each company’s potential in the country, as well as engaging potential Japanese customers and partners, “facilitating meetings to kick-start commercial discussions and developing a follow-on strategy to build on the exercise”.
“Japan offers huge opportunities for UK innovations– and the latest four companies to join our programme stood out as having particularly suitable technologies,” said Gavin Cleary, head of the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme at Intralink, pictured. “The range of services we provide is designed to help them realise their potential in Japan and the wider APAC region and we’re happy to have them on board.”
Spaceflux
The four companies are described by Intralink as follows:
Spaceflux – the London-based developer of a proprietary global network of optical sensors that provide data-driven ‘space situational awareness services’ to help space companies avoid orbital congestion and protect their satellites from the increasing volume of space debris.
Natcap – a company spawned out of Oxford University that provides a ‘nature intelligence platform’ to help companies measure and manage their interactions with nature.
Brill Power –an Oxford-based developer of an innovative ‘battery intelligence platform’ that combines hardware, software and analytics to increase battery lifespan, predictability, flexibility and sustainability while reducing waste.
Accelerated Materials – a Cambridge University spin-off which uncovers new, advanced materials to enhance product development and uses automation and AI to optimise manufacturing processes.
UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme
Aimed at UK technology startups headquartered in the UK, the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme is a government-backed initiative to help the companies grow in the Asia Pacific region, “derisking and accelerating the growth of the sector”. It is run jointly by the UK Government’s Department for Business & Trade and the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology.
There is, for example, a Workshop library, reverse pitch opportunities, market opportunity reports, in-country missions, and advice on long- and short-term business strategy for the companies backed by the programme. You can read more about the UK-APAC Tech Growth Programme here.
