Half-bridge power module delivers up to 50 kW for traction inverters

Update: October 6, 2021

Infineon Technologies AG has introduced its automotive-qualified EasyPACK 2B EDT2 half-bridge power module, optimized for inverter applications in hybrid and electric vehicles. The 750-V device can reach a maximum power of up to 50 kW and 230 Arms, depending on inverter conditions, said the company.

The new half-bridge power module with the introduction of the EDT2 (electric drive train) in this package expands Infineon’s EasyPACK IGBT modules, designed for a range of industrial and automotive applications, into traction inverters. The EasyPACK 2B EDT2 is fully qualified to the AQG324 standard.

Infineon said the key feature of the EDT2 technology is the higher efficiency at low-load conditions, and claims it can significantly lower losses than current products on the market as well as outperforms Infineon’s previous chip generation by 20 percent. The device features a low stray inductance of 8 nH.

The EasyPACK uses a plug-and-play approach, which simplifies module integration. It also offers several packaging benefits, including space savings. Compared to traditional through-hole discrete packages as well as the HybridPACK 1, soldering of the pins is no longer required, said Infineon, while the PressFIT contact technology enables a reduction in mounting time.

Three EasyPACK 2B modules require 30 percent less surface area than a HybridPACK 1. The new EasyPACK 2B EDT2 module FF300R08W2P2_B11A will be available starting in October 2021.
