High energy slimline batteries offer extended off-the-shelf range

Update: September 2, 2021

Accutronics now offers four new pre-engineered Thin Cell 3V primary (non-rechargeable) batteries to electronic design engineers and OEMs in the UK, Ireland and Europe. Produced by its parent company, Ultralife Corporation, the new slimline batteries are as thin as 1.1mm to satisfy the growing demand for handheld and wearable electronic devices.

The expanded range is ideal for handheld devices employed in asset tracking, data logging and smart security, and wearable devices utilised in medical environments for remote patient monitoring.

Each battery offers a high energy density, gives a stable 3V discharge and utilises the company’s medical and defence proven Li-MnO2 chemistry.

The new additions comprise the CP114951, which has a 51mm x 48.8mm footprint with a 1.1mm thickness and a 0.38Ah nominal capacity; the 30mm x 11.2mm and 3.2mm thick CP301030, and the CP301322, which is the most lightweight addition offering a 22.5mm x 13.5mm footprint, 3.2mm thickness and 1.1g weight.

The final addition is the CP603145, which is the biggest of the range at 45mm x 31mm, 6.2mm thickness and 15.7g weight. This slightly larger footprint is linked with a higher operating temperature range from -20C to +80C (compared to -20C to +60C for the other three cells), making it an excellent choice for larger applications with higher power demands where size and weight are crucial, but less of a premium.

Electronic devices have been shrinking at an ever-increasing rate over the last decade, which is why Ultralife developed Thin Cell battery technology back in 2012,” explained Robert Brown, marketing executive at Accutronics and Ultralife Corporation. “However, particularly in the past year, we have seen the market change in unexpected ways, with asset tracking tags and wearable medical devices becoming more widely used.

“Every wearable or handheld device is dependent on an effective underlying battery that offers reliable performance. The new additions to the Thin Cell® range allow us to continue to support OEMs to develop increasingly compact and lightweight devices, without sacrificing power performance.”

Further assistance is offered for OEMs with bespoke compact battery demands through an online tool on the Ultralife website.
