High voltage suppression component for aerospace and industrial use

Update: March 29, 2023

ProTek Devices has developed a high-powered surface mount transient voltage suppression component intended for module, motor, and AC/DC systems, including those in aircraft, to allow equipment circuit protection from the damaging effects of high voltage spikes. It is supplied in a surface mount package offering a lower profile than legacy axial lead package configurations.

More specifically, the new SM100KWE78CA component is excellent for usage with Relay drives, motor (start/stop) back EMF protection, module lightning protection, and secondary lightning protection for AC/DC systems. It is RTCA DO-160G compliant.

Technical capabilities incorporate waveforms (pin Injection) 3 and 4 – level 5; waveform 5A – level 6 (2000V/2000A). It also offers a low clamping voltage and allows 100kW peak pulse power per line (typical = 10/1000 microseconds). It will enable a bidirectional configuration and simple mounting to a PCB. The minimum breakdown voltage is 78V. For other voltages, customers can enquire to the company. The device is also RoHS and REACH compliant.

The device is offered in a moulded surface mount package with an approximate weight of only 10.5g. It has lead-free Au-plated pads and a solder reflow temperature of 260-270Cs, for up to ten seconds. It also has a flammability rating of UL 94V-0. Operating and storage temperatures are -55C to 150C.
