January 4, 2024 — According to an IDC report, global demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing accelerators is exploding. The semiconductor industry, including products such as logic integrated circuits, analog integrated circuits, microprocessors, microcontrollers, and memory chips, is about to usher in a new round of growth.
IDC noted that since early November 2023, memory chip manufacturers have implemented strict supply and production controls. Meanwhile, all demand for AI products is expected to drive semiconductor sales growth throughout 2024.
IDC predicts that factors such as declining output, increased HBM memory chip penetration, strong demand for AI chips, and a gradual recovery in smartphone demand are expected to drive growth to 20% in 2024.
IDC also predicts that AI-related chips will exceed demand for data centers and high-performance computing (HPC) systems as new AI-powered smartphones, AI-powered PCs, and AI-powered wearables are about to hit the market. In addition, IDC also predicts that advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and infotainment devices will usher in new market developments.
