IMS: PXI and PXIe relay modules switch 110GHz

They will be reveals for the first time at IMS in San Diego next week.

40-781A-92x (PXI) and 42-781A-92x (PXIe) consist of either a single or dual microwave changeover switch.

Connections are via front panel SMA 1.0 connectors, and they are available with external terminations. Power handling without termination is 35W.

“Externally terminated switches offer the advantage that the user-accessible terminations can be removed and replaced with higher-power RF loads for increased signal levels,” according to the company. “Switch topology flexibility allows alternative switching configurations, such as terminated 4-port bypass with one termination removed, and five-port DP3T with both terminations removed.”

Inside, latching relays are used to minimising heating, and LED indication provides visual confirmation of switch status.

Relay cycle counting is provided for test system predictive maintenance, with the number of operations per contact stored on the module. “This information could allow system connections to be revised so that signals applied to heavily-used contacts are swapped with lightly-used contacts to prolong the working life of the relays,” said Pickering.

Software drivers are available for certain programming environments, including all Microsoft-supported Windows versions, some Linux varieties, and some real-time hardware-in-the-loop tools.

“These modules are particularly applicable to emerging microwave technologies, such as automotive radar, in addition to radar, satellite and short-range land-based secure communication testing,” said Pickering product manager Steve Edwards.
