Industrial server motherboard for 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors

Aaeon has created a server motherboard for Intel’s 3rd generation Xeon Scalable Processors – codenamed Ice Lake-SP.

The industrial ATX board is called ARES-WHI0.

“This new generation of Xeon SP brings higher processing speeds and Intel’s deep learning boost technology, allowing for greater acceleration and more efficient processing for AI server applications,” according to Aaeon. “ARES-WHI0 takes advantage of the Whitley platform to deliver performance and support for a range of deployments from server board, AI computing and industrial control applications.”

It has three PCIe Gen 4 (x16) slots and one PCIe 3.0 (x8) with x16 form factor, allowing the board to power up to four GPUs for applications such as AI-based visual inspection.

It also has three PCIe 3.0 (x4) slots (with x8 form factor), “perfect for frame grabbers, or AI accelerators”, said Aaeon.

For storage there are eight SATA III (6Gbit/s) ports with RAID support, as well as NVMe and support Intel’s Optane Persistent Memory 200  series modules for server use.

For industrial use, the company has also included interfaces for: DIO, COM, audio jack and VGA ports.

Operation is over 0 – 50°C and there are five 4pin fan headers with tachometer status monitoring and PWM speed control. CPU thermal trip and TM2 (Thermal Monitor 2) are supported, and there is I2C temperature sensing logic.
