LED/TFT backlight driver for automotive displays

Update: August 12, 2023

Mouser is now offering the MAX25530 four-channel automotive backlight driver from Maxim Integrated Products. The driver integrates four I²C-controlled, 150mA LED backlight drivers and a four-output TFT-LCD)bias in a single 40-pin, 6mm x 6mm chip to aid engineers to decrease the design footprint of automotive dashboards, central information, and navigation displays.

The device integrates one positive boost converter, one negative boost converter, two charge pump drivers for powering up TFT bias, and a boost/SEPIC controller for powering up to four strings of LEDs in the display backlight. For larger and higher-resolution displays, TFT bias and LED drivers are required. The driver supports larger Screen sizes and higher resolution by offering positive analog supply voltage and negative analog supply voltage, which are needed for LTPS that provide higher resolution and lower cost than amorphous silicon panels currently in use.

For design support, the company also offers the MAX25530 evaluation kit, a fully assembled and tested surface-mount PCB that gives a complete power-management solution for automotive displays. The kit may be configured to work in a standalone mode or an I²C mode, giving an I²C interface that can function in conjunction with the MINIQUSB+ adapter board or a third-party I²C master. The evaluation kit also incorporates Windows-compatible software that provides a simple GUI for exercising the features of the MAX25530 IC.
