LTE CAT-M1 module for Massive IoT based on carrier-proven technology

Renesas Electronics Corporation has released the RYZ014A, its first cellular IoT module supporting the LTE Cat-M1 specification. This technology enables devices to connect directly to the internet with no need for a gateway by relying on the existing communication infrastructure controlled by mobile network operators. This makes it economical to connect every device, which is particularly beneficial when installing larger networks that need a low cost per unit. The pre-tested, pre-certified module allows customers to quickly and cost-effectively implement wireless IoT applications across the globe.

The module solves customers’ design and certification issues compared to creating a wireless IoT solution from scratch. This comprises RF regulatory certification, PTCRB/GCF certification and carrier certification for the customer’s network operator of choice. The module is constructed on proven technology from a hardware and software perspective and is presented fully tested and calibrated. It has been certified with all major radio frequency regulations in the world and leading network operators in North America, APAC and Europe. Cellular IoT is one of the pillars of the company’s connectivity strategy that also includes BLE, UWB and Wi-SUN, among others.
