Melexis offers free magnetic design simulator for 2D/3D sensors

Update: July 4, 2021

Melexis has launched a free, online simulation tool for magnetic sensor evaluation and module design. The magnetic design simulator allows engineers to design and simulate their own magnets based on the company’s Triaxis 2D/3D sensors, enabling faster design of custom magnetic sensor modules to meet their application’s requirements.

The tool simulates the sensor’s performance in a customer’s application with a high level of accuracy, including stray field immunity, said Melexis, and simulation with this level of accuracy can significantly improve and accelerate the design cycle of sensor modules.

Typically, simulators with this level of functionality are not generally available from manufacturers at no cost, said Melexis. However, the company decided to offer the simulation tool free to use with as much simulation capability as possible. It provides customers with results that are closer to how a real sensor would perform.

Simulating multipole magnets is not simple, said Melexis. The company created a catalog of magnets that customers can use to develop and simulate their own unique applications, based on the Streamlit framework and the Python library for analytical formulas for simple magnetic shapes (magpylib).

This online simulation tool covers mechanical and magnetic design, for both linear and rotary modes of operation with or without stray field immunity factored in. It also supports real-time design by providing results as soon as any parameter is modified.
