New contrast sensor provides multicolour capability in a small size

Update: May 17, 2023

With its new KRT 3C contrast sensor, Leuze provides the smallest contrast sensor it has ever created for the packaging industry. Plant operators gain from a compact device that may be employed in multiple ways. The device detects reliably and position accurately even if there are only small contrast variations and with glossy surfaces or highly reflective materials. This is achievable by the multicolour functionality: red, green, and blue light and white and laser red light will not allow any object or printed label to pass through unnoticed. This enables users to choose the correct light source for any material and contrast mark colour for their packaging and labelling processes.

The sensor detects contrasts precisely and reliably, with a short response time of just 50μs (laser 125μs) and with minimal signal jitter. This helps to attain optimal machine throughput. With its small dimensions of 11mm x 32mm x 17mm, the sensor is designed for tight installation spaces, which means it can be fitted virtually anywhere. Users can effortlessly set up the sensor through the integrated IO-Link interface. Changes are also made quickly when altering product formats.

The sensor meets degrees of protection IP67 and IP69K. It is also ECOLAB-certified, so it can even handle aggressive cleaning agents.
