New low current mmWave gain blocks launched

Update: April 13, 2023

CML Microcircuits has announced the CMX90B701 and CMX90B702 Low Current/Noise Gain Blocks. These products are the latest additions to its innovative SµRF product family and continue the company’s push into the higher frequency ranges of mmWave and beyond.

The devices provide an optimal balance between linearity, output power, and noise with a typical P1dB output figure of +7.5dBm, an IP3 output of +17.5dBm and a noise figure of 4dB. Thanks to the innovative dual-bias mode, these low-current devices can be set to function at either 10mA or 15mA from a single positive supply rail ranging between 3V and 5V. The high maximum operating temperature of the gain blocks (105C) allows them to be employed in wireless infrastructure and compact transceiver applications.

“With the CMX90B701 and CMX90B702, CML continue to prioritise simplicity for the designer,” said Arwyn Roberts – RF product manager at CML Microcircuits. “With input and output ports matched to 50-Ohm, these devices can be easily plugged into the RF system with minimal external components and offer an optimal balance between low power consumption and performance.”

Employing GaAs pHEMT technology, the gain blocks are ideal for applications, including 5G mmWave infrastructure, Ka-band satcom and microwave backhaul, where dynamic market conditions require mass-market, cost-effective solutions.

The devices are the latest to use the company’s notable investment in high-frequency RFIC/MMIC design capability, adding to the rapidly growing SµRF portfolio comprising a range of PAs, LNAs, and Gain Blocks and FEMs, all based on GaAs and GaN technologies.
