Fujikura has launched a new splicing and glass protecting system, the LZM-125 Series, which works in conjunction with onboard firmware to produce fully automatic glass shaping processes.
The system employs a CO2 laser heat source to perform splicing, tapering, lensing and other high precision glass shaping operations with glass diameters of 2mm or less.
The company has added extra features such as greater PC control and more flexibility through the possibility of manual handling. Customers can also produce proprietary PC control algorithms utilising a complete set of control commands.
The system allows high-resolution motion control for increased precision throughout splicing and glass processing operation.
One of the first customers to receive the new LMZ-125 Series, based in Germany, commented: “We decided to use the LAZERMaster LZM-125A+ splicing system because it is capable of a variety of applications such as splicing, tapering and ablating fibres reaching from telecommunication up to laser development applications. The series includes an extensive library of applications which are transferable between the LZM and the FSM family, as well as motorised mirrors to automatically adjust the beam path.
Using Fibre Processing Software which is a PC-based system that expands the capabilities of the LZM Series splicers, users can access a variety of speciality splicing tools within one environment. These include fibre tapering, parabolic tapering, ball lensing, capabilities to drive individual motors, real-time warm taper imaging (WTI), monitoring and control and the creation of splice scripts.
The LZM-125 Series also has a clean, modular CO2 laser heat source which leaves no deposits on fibre surfaces as might occur with filaments or electrodes. This means there is no need for external process gas or vacuum systems.
