Open-source vehicle hacking platform for connecting to a vehicle CAN bus

Update: April 14, 2021

Crowd Supply has announced the launch of board::mini, an open-source platform developed specifically for connecting to a vehicle’s CAN bus. The platform is an STM32F103 MCU board that provides a CAN transceiver with ESD protection and hardware filter, as well as auxiliary features, including a microSD card slot, atmospheric sensor, and more.

Board::mini was developed by bmc::labs with support from Crowd Supply and includes three expansions to the mini::base microcontroller board. Mini::out, a simple breakout board for the mini::base, featuring two 12-pin headers for IO access, a JTAG connector, and a spring-loaded clamp to give CAN bus connectivity and up to 24V of power. Mini::grid supports GPS L1 C/A code and quad-band GSM connectivity. Based around the SIMCOM SIM868, mini::grid’s features a nano-SIM-card slot and a pair of Binder connectors. Mini::pit is based on the ESP32-WROOM-U and adds a second CAN bus with transceiver, filter, and protection to the mini::base.
