Ruggedised 300W buck-boost dc-dc converters in 1/16 brick

The RGC series has a 9 to 53V imput range and adjustable output voltages of 9.6 to 48V (8Amax), or 5 to 28V (12.5Amax), depending on version. The idea is to cover 12, 18, 24, 36 and 48V batteries and power sources. Remote shut-down reduces input current to 0.25mA to conserve battery charge.

“Buck-boost topology allows the converter to maintain regulation even when the output voltage exceeds the input,” said the company, providing certain caveats are met. “Wide input ranges simplify inventory management with one part number covering multiple input and output voltages.”

Packaging is 38.1 x 49.5 x 13mm 1/16th brick, and the converters are encapsulated to provide resistance to shock and vibration with qualification to MIL-STD-810G.

Externally, it has a die-cast five-sided aluminium housing (with mounting tabs), which can screen EMI.

Peak efficiency is 97%, conduction cooling to a cold-plate is expected, and fan-less operation is possible.

Operation is with case temperatures of -40 to +115°C.

Basic models include an output voltage adjustment pin, negative logic remote on/off, remote sense and protection from input under-voltage, over-current and over-heating. Other versions add a power-good output, current monitor output and sync input. All of them need external passive components to meet their specs.

All models carry CE and UKCA marking for the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives, and are designed to IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1 safety standards.

Evaluation boards are available.

Use is expected in harsh environment applications including robotics, automated guided vehicles, communications, industry and in portable battery-powered equipment.
