Self-powered switch module is Bluetooth Low Energy or Zigbee Green Power

Called PTM 535BZ, the 2.4GHz device is designed to be combined with the company’s ECO 200 finger-press energy harvester to create battery-free wireless switches.

An integrated NFC (near field communication) receiver is included to ease switching between the two radio standards.

“PTM 535BZ is the first module from the product range to be equipped with an NFC interface; a technical challenge due to the very small form factor,” according to EnOcean. “The use of NFC makes configuration much easier and saves time during installation. It also allows selecting between BLE and ZGP radio protocol and defining all configuration parameters using an NFC-enabled smartphone or, alternatively, a PC with an NFC reader.”

The board is physically similar to its PTM 535 (EnOcean proprietary radio) and PTM 535Z (ZigBee Green Power) modules, allowing integration into existing switch designs.

Applications are foreseen in stop buttons in public buses, mechanical door and window sensors, and controlling household appliances.

EnOcean is headquartered near Munich.
