Snap-acting switch offers flexible options to save space

Update: June 30, 2021

C&K has developed a low- to high-power snap-acting switch series in a small footprint. Offering a range of options, including switching loads, actuator type, and termination, the  ZMV series can be used in a variety of applications, such as automotive handles, electric vehicle charging, HVAC, IoT devices, home appliances, and medical equipment.

Available with lever and pin plunger actuators, the pin plunger type can be actuated from different angles to help save space, while enabling use in a variety of applications. The pin plunger version allows for less components to be used in an end product, while not sacrificing usability and practicality, said C&K.

The mini ZMV snap-acting switch measures 13.3 × 7 × 5.3 mm, which makes it suited for space-constrained applications. It is available in either a standalone or wire harness solution with IP67 protection. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C and the mechanical life is 1 million cycles minimum.

The ZMV Series features a long stroke and a solid force actuation with a click audible sound which provides actuation feedback. This also can be helpful for troubleshooting if there is an issue with the switch, said C&K. The operating force is 150 gf max.

In addition, the switches offer high contact reliability to support low- to high-level switching loads. Offering higher reliability compared to traditional snap-acting switches, the series is available with either a silver or gold contact.  The gold contact option targets ultra-low-current applications, delivering longer lasting reliability, said the company.
