STM32 Summit 2021, See What a Return to Normal Looks Like

Indeed, after a year marked by postponed and canceled events around the world, we can finally taste a new beginning, a slow return to normality. As the pictures below show, ST was careful to implement safety measures, provide masks, and encourage attendees to observe health precautions, thus guaranteeing maximum safety.

Keynotes

The STM32 Summit started with a series of speeches by ST’s CEO and President Jean-Marc Chery, and other executives. The ceremony then continued with some presentations by ST and its partners.

Hackathon

The 24-hour Hackathon Challenge gave budding developers access to ST’s development platforms and technical experts. We had provided documentation before the contest, and industry professionals were on hand during the competition to offer technical support. The teams enjoyed the competition and came up with exciting projects that they shared at the end of the Summit.

  • Project name: Boosting Smart City on LoRaWAN technology
  • Team: RAKwireless
  • Platform: NUCLEO-WL55JC2 + P-NUCLEO-LRWAN3 (Gateway), STM32H735G-DK, X-NUCLEO-IKS01A3
  • Project brief: The Nucleo-WL55JC2 serves as a LoRaWAN terminal transmission node, hosts the X-Nucleo-IKS01A3 (temperature, humidity, air pressure, and acceleration sensor) expansion board, and simulates the various data that would come from a smart city. On the LoRaWAN gateway, the P-NUCLEO-LRWAN3 uploads data to the server to easily see all data remotely. Meanwhile, the server also forwards downlink data to the gateway. The STM32H735-DK is connected to a terminal transmission node and can display the city’s data through the embedded terminal screen as well as can control the downlink data at the same time.

Demos

The demos focused on four key applications: Industry & Security, Artificial Intelligence & Sensing, Cloud & Connectivity, and Ecosystem & Innovation.

Out of all the demos that we showed during the two-day event, we wanted to highlight Seeed, a Chinese company showcasing a smart agriculture application. By using ST’s LoRaWAN module, the system can transmit information on a soil’s humidity and health. As a result, it’s possible to run a more efficient farming operation by only tending to grounds that need it.

Workshops

The second day of the STM32 Summit began with workshops on Industry & Security, Artificial Intelligence & Sensing, Cloud & Connectivity, and Ecosystem & Innovation. We held sessions from morning till late afternoon with many attendees actively participating in thoughtful and engaging discussions.

Fans Carnival

As with all the STM32 Summit in years past, the 2021 Fans Carnival was a must-see. Between the Game Zone, Demo Zone, Photo Zone, Hackathon challenge, and Interactive Nucleo Wall, attendees could compete with fun games, ask questions, take funny pictures, or relax with a bag of popcorn or cotton candy.
