Wet tantalum capacitors for oil exploration and aerospace applications

Update: July 14, 2021

New Yorker Electronics has released the new Vishay T24 Series SMD HI-TMP Wet Tantalum Capacitors with high operating temperatures to +200C in the compact C case code. Offering a glass-to-tantalum hermetic seal and a long life of up to 2,000 hours, it provides a smaller size and footprint than equivalent through-hole and over-moulded high-temperature devices. The series is intended to use board space more efficiently and achieve increased reliability for oil exploration, defence and aerospace radar applications.

Measuring 9mm x 7.1mm x 7.4mm, the capacitors have been optimised for timing, filtering, energy hold-up and pulse power applications. They provide improved thermal shock capability to 300 cycles, removing the need to use larger through-hole devices in demanding environments.

The series offers 200C derated voltage ratings of 45VDC and 75VDC, with capacitance values of 33µF and 10µF, respectively, and a capacitance tolerance of ±10% and ±20% standard. The devices perform over a temperature range of -55C to +85C, to +200C with voltage derating and give maximum ESR down to 2.5Ohm at 120Hz and +85C. The capacitors are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

Typical applications include oil exploration, avionics, aerospace, and applications where higher than 150C operation is required.
