RECOM has added to its ‘K’ series of DC-DC converters with the REC5K-AW, a 5W, wide input DC-DC in a plastic package, only 1″ x 1″ footprint, 0.4 “profile (25.4mm x 25.4mm x 10mm).
The cost-effective part functions over a wide 4:1 (9-36VDC) input range and supplies a regulated 5V output rated at 1A with 18-36VDC input. Operation is from -40C to 110C ambient with derating.
The device is certified to EN/UL/IEC 62368-1 ‘basic’ grade isolation, 4kV/1sec, and the DC-DC fulfils EMC standard EN 55032 Class B with a simple external filter.
Protection features comprise an input under-voltage lockout and output short circuit immunity. An On/Off control is also included with a standby current draw of typically just 3mA.
The device is characterised for operation to 5000m altitude, and pollution degree 2 (PD2) environment and reliability is high with an MTBF above 1.4MHrs at 25C according to MIL-HDBK-217F (Ground Benign).
The combination of wide input and temperature operating ranges with high power density make the device excellent for demanding applications such as medical and industrial, where performance, reliability and cost-effectiveness are expected.
