Young Woman Engineer of the Year

She is Ella Podmore (pictured), a materials engineer for super car maker McLaren Automotive.

“Balancing her time between experiments and leading technical meetings, Ella created this [materials] department from the ground-up and plans to demonstrate the importance of materials in the automotive industry even further,” according to the IET.

Apprentice non-destructive examination engineer Denize Pilarita from BAE Systems Submarines received the Mary George Memorial Prize for Apprentices.

Shrouk El-Attar, an electronic engineer at woman-specific technology company Elvie, won the Women’s Engineering Society prize

Finalists included:

  • Dr Melanie Jimenez, a Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow.
  • Neera Kukadia, project engineer at Transport for London.
  • Bethany Probert, software engineer at Altran UK
