Digi-Key showcases Factory Tomorrow video series

They look at how edge computing can help factories deploy and run field-based machines without the need for central networking

The distributor is launching the three-part video series with Banner Engineering, a manufacturer of industrial automation products, and Weidmüller, a specialist in industrial connectivity. The first video is live and available to watch now, with the others following in the next two months.

“As machines get smarter, manufacturers must continually evolve to meet the increasingly complex environment in which they operate,” said Robbie Paul, director of IoT business solutions at Digi-Key.

“Growth and investment in industrial automation and digitized systems are the new normal and Digi-Key is committed to helping our customers keep pace with today’s ever-changing business landscape.”

Episodes

Episode One looks at the rise of edge computing, which is bringing complex technologies like machine learning to the point of data capture, enabling faster and more responsive reactions to the data generated by sensors across the factory floor.

Episode Two, which will be released in August, chronicles the rise of robotics in the manufacturing industry, and how new designs collaborate alongside human workers on the factory floor to create new, high-quality job opportunities across the industry.

Their final episode, which should be available in September, looks at how artificial intelligence applications can unlock the true potential of IoT applications, from real-time analytics to connected sensors, predictive maintenance, and supply chain automation.

Industry 4.0

“The advancement of Industry 4.0 and IIoT is an exciting time for our customers who, every day, deploy our products to transform their operations, increase their profitability and accelerate their ability to connect to valuable data on both new and legacy systems, regardless of their industry,” said Banner Engineering’s director of business development – industrial wireless and IIoT, Matt Negaard.

“Edge computing, which brings computation and data storage closer to where it is needed, is perfect for small, stand-alone applications where our AI/ML can help improve decision-making, add value, increase efficiency and boost production,” said Andrew Barco, Weidmüller’s director of automation products & solutions.
