The award in this case celebrates growth through export sales of microwave and mmWave products over three years.
As an example, according to Filtronic, it has shipped over 63,000 E-band mmWave transceivers, 99.9% for export. These are used by 5G mobile network operators with high-capacity radio links for back-haul, mid-haul and front-haul – also known as x-haul.
“The past 12 months in particular have been exceptional for Filtronic. In addition to receiving this Queen’s Award, we were honoured earlier in the year to win two of Electronics Weekly’s Elektra Awards, one for Manufacturer of the Year and one for Company of the Year,” said its CEO Richard Gibbs, adding: “We are continuing to invest in R&D and manufacturing across all our facilities, having recently strengthened our capabilities in Sedgefield, our RF centre in Leeds and our critical communications hub in Salisbury, Maryland. This has enabled us to grow output and to maintain a strong order book.”
Filtronic products are used in aerospace, defence, telecommunication infrastructure, test and measurement, and other markets are emerging, such as HAPS (high-altitude pseudo-satellites and LEO (low earth orbit) constellations.
