High in-rush relay for smart lighting

High in-rush relay for smart lighting

Part of the G5RL series, the parts are G5RL-K-EL, where ‘K’ indicates double-winding latching,  and ‘EL’ shows the contacts are tolerant of high in-rush currents.

While other relays in the series are available with change-over contacts, EL types are only available as SPST-NO (single-pole single throw normally-open). Contacts are cadmium-free sliver alloy.

Max resistive-switching ratings are 250Vac and 16A – the latter is max carry and max switching. They don’t have a dc switching rating, although other members of the G5RL series do.

Alongside this is a 20,000 cycle life switching a 140μF capacitor (250Vac 16A room temp).

“G5RL-K-EL is approved to IEC60669-1, and has an in-rush current capability up to 255A, making it ideal for environments where loads vary enormously,” according to Omron. “The device is also compatible with IEC60335-1. It is ideal for controlling fluorescent and LED lamps.” – IEC60335-1 is the international safety standard for electrical and electronic household appliances.

Maximum contact resistance is 100mΩ (measured at 1A 5Vdc).

Set and reset coils are identical, are both polarised, and share a common positive terminal. Versions are available with nominal coil voltages of 5V (150mA/33.3Ω), 12V (62.5mA/192Ω) or 24V (35mA/686Ω). With caveats, the minimum pulse needed to operate a coil is 30ms and the maximum time power can be applied is 60s.

Max size is 29 x 12.7 x 15.7mm plus pins.
