Lockable alternative mains connectors are 60320-1 compliant

Update: May 5, 2023

PowerCon XX, as they are known, cover cables with outer diameters between 6mm and 16mm, and wire gauges of 12 to 16AWG (2.5 to 1.5mm2):

  • NAC3FXXA-W-S (blue) or NAC3FXXB-W-S (grey) for 6 to 12mm cables
  • NAC3FXXA-W-L (blue) or NAC3FXXB-W-L (grey) for 10 to 16mm cables

“The connectors’ blue power-in and grey power-out colour coding is coupled with discrete power-in and power-out keying to prevent the inter-mating of power cables,” according to the company. “The twist locking system works together with Neutrik’s locking bushing and strain relief to provide a robust interconnect, wherein dual component bushing improves cable kink protection.”

Operation is over -33 to +80°C, up to 16A 250Vac or 20A 127Vac, and IP20 for ingress. They are cylindrical, measuring 26.5mm diameter and ~80mm long. Lifetime is typically 5,000 mating cycles.

Two-compound moulding is used for the housing to reduce the chance of slipping, and the strain relief mechanically locks with the insert to align with the housing.

Compliance is to IEC62368-1, IEC60799 or UL817 in the EU, UK, US and Canada, and they “meet relevant global safety regulations for mains power connectors in accordance with IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60320-1, relating to true breaking CBC functionality”, said the company. “Certification to IEC/EN/UL/CSA 60320-1 assures PowerCon XX as components for cord sets according to IEC 60799 and UL817 when used with Neutrik NAC3MPXXA and NAC3MPXXB receptacles – as well as for other equipment according to IEC 62368-1.”

They can be mated to earlier (‘non-NAC3MPXX’) Neutriks blue and grey receptacles, but these combinations do not support CBC functionality and therefore are not 60320-1 certified.
