Melexis offers free simulation tool for magnetic sensor evaluation

The tool gives customers’ engineering teams the ability to design and simulate their own magnets based on Melexis’ Triaxis 2D/3D sensors. By using the simulation application, engineers can quickly design a custom magnetic sensor module to their own specification.

The tool simulates the sensor’s performance in a customer’s application with a high level of accuracy, including stray field immunity. Simulation with this level of accuracy can significantly improve and accelerate the design cycle of sensor modules.

“Melexis has developed this online simulator to give customers fast, accurate results at the earliest possible stage in a project’s design,” says Melexis’ Jerome Degois, “it delivers greater accuracy than other simulators, as it has been specifically developed to simulate how the Triaxis 2D/3D magnetic sensor will react when used with a wide variety of magnets.”

Simulating multipole magnets is not simple, as it involves complex physics. As a result, simulators with this level of functionality are not generally available from manufacturers at no cost. Melexis has taken the decision to make its simulation tool free to use and include as much simulation capability as possible.

The online simulation tool covers mechanical and magnetic design, for both linear and rotary modes of operation with or without stray field immunity factored in. No other free-to-use simulation tool can match these features.

The tool also supports real-time design by providing results as soon as any parameter is modified. Based on the Streamlit framework and the Python library for analytical formulas for simple magnetic shapes (magpylib), Melexis has extended this foundation to create a catalogue of magnets that customers can use to develop and simulate their own unique applications.
