Panel potentiometers are stiffer to resist accidental rotation

Behind the panel, the bodies are 12.5 x 12.5mm, and they are modular, allowing up to seven potentiometers to be stacked on the back of a single shaft. Various switch modules can be included.

Operating torque is typically 8Ncm ±2Ncm, with the end stops rated up to 80Ncm. The shaft is 6.35mm in diameter.

“Vishay Sfernice P11H potentiometers are designed to keep the setting when under high mechanical constraints from vibration, shock and other factors,” according to New Yorker Electronics, which is stocking the parts. They “provide high torque with smooth operation throughout the life of the potentiometer”.

There is a choice 1kΩ, 4.7kΩ, 10kΩ, 47kΩ or 100kΩ tracks, at ±10% or ±20% tolerance, and operation is over -55 and +125°C.

Approvals include CECC 41000 and IEC 60393-1, and sealing is to IP64. 50,000 cycle life is expected.

The W10 PCB pin vertical-mount version is 35.6mm long including pins and shaft, and the 30mm long Y00 version has lugs out the side with holes for soldering wires into (see images).

Applications are expected controlling lights, radio volume and air conditioning in tractors, construction equipment and aircraft cockpits, as well as in industrial tools, welders and motors controls.
