Ultra-low-power microcontrollers for IoT

Update: March 30, 2021

Mouser now stocks RA4M2 microcontrollers from Renesas Electronics. The RA4M2 Group extends the series microcontrollers, giving an outstanding combination of extremely low active power consumption, high performance, and enhanced security features that places them as ideal options for industrial and IoT applications.

The microcontrollers are constructed on a high-performance 100MHz Arm Cortex-M33 core based on Armv8-M architecture, with Arm TrustZone technology and the company’s Secure Crypto Engine. The Engine includes multiple symmetric and asymmetric cryptography accelerators, advanced key management, power analysis resistance, security lifecycle management, and tamper detection.

The microcontrollers offer an operating current of just 80µA/MHz in active mode and a low standby current of 0.7mA with an extremely fast wakeup time from standby of 30µs. With operating frequencies up to 100MHz, these microcontrollers are excellent for high-performance, low-power applications such as industrial and IoT edge devices plus metering, HVAC, and enhanced premises security.

The microcontrollers are supported by the company’s Flexible Software Package, which facilitates rapid implementation of complex security and connectivity functions by enabling customers to reuse legacy code and consolidate it with software from other Arm partners. The FSP also provides tools to improve efficiency, speeding the development process for projects targeting these microcontrollers.
